Industrial metrology 3D Measurements by optical scanning

In the industrial sector many companies are in need of 3d measurements. Unilab offers among the various measurement methods also that by optical scanning through the GOM ATOS Q tool. The technology allows to compare the parts of the components with the theoretical values defined.

This type of 3d measurement is most in demand in the following areas:

  • Quality control
  • Design
  • Production

The system we use ATOS (Advanced Topometric Sensor) allows, quickly and easily, the digitization of measurement objects with high resolution and precision.

ATOS TECHNOLOGY IN 3D MEASUREMENT

The ATOS system works by acquiring individual 3D measuring points through different methods to obtain a triangular type measurement. During the measurement, the ATOS sensor projects a pattern of structured light fringes onto the object captured by the cameras.

By taking multiple individual 3d measurements from different directions we achieve a complete and precise digitization of the object. The sensor used detects up to 4 million points per measurement.

In a few seconds the software is able to calculate 3D clouds of millions of points in a precise way for each individual measurement. The progress of digitisation is displayed directly on the monitor in real time.

To meet and guarantee safe and accurate measurement results, even in harsh industrial environments, it is necessary in each process to have the following favorable conditions:

  • Calibration status of the measuring system
  • Movement of the measuring object and sensor
  • Change of ambient light

THE STEPS OF 3D MEASUREMENTS

In the video below you can see the various steps of the 3D measurement process, carried out directly at the customer’s site. The service is advantageous for both on-site measurements and those carried out in our laboratory. We also offer contact measurement services according to customer needs.

The service phases are as follows:

  • Positioning of the measuring object
  • Selection of the scanning template
  • Setting the exposure time
  • Scanning the measuring object
  • Alignment of measurements (via reference markers or best-fit method)
  • Polygonization
  • Colour map processing
  • Writing the Custom Report
